Reviews are in for Nicholas Brendon in 'Santaland Diaries'

… And they’re good! Of course, we had no doubt, right?

An excerpt from Examiner.com’s review:

As directed by Michael Matthews, Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) channels Sedaris in all his humiliating green velvet and big bow glory in this entertaining one-man show adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello. From dry acknowledgement of his demoralizing situation (“I am a 33-year-old man applying for a job as an elf.”) to droll observations of crazy human behavior, corporate greed and crass Christmas commercialism, Brendon cracks wise with an easy inviting charm.

And from Backstage.com:

Building comic steam with his deadpan delivery, Brendon strikes the ideal mix of cynicism and dry wit to mine the material for maximum hilarity. … Brendon boasts a likable presence that helps balance the script’s uglier implications with a lighthearted sense of fun.

My wife and I went to see this on the 5th. We are both huge Sedaris fans and now we’re also big Brendon fans (truth be told we loved Nicholas in Buffy but now we’re really fans). He played the part of David perfectly and I loved how he involved the audience as well. It made for some seriously funny moments. We went to talk to him after the show and he was very kind. He posed for pictures and even fulfilled a very silly request by my wife. Thanks Nicholas!

my roommate and i got to see the show tonight… LOVED IT. and everyone saw how much we enjoyed it- we were right down front. seemed like a quiet audience though :( but we had a great time (I think Steve did too as his timing with the barks was impeccable, lol)

we knew we’d enjoy the play’s material as we both enjoy Sedaris’ work but Nick was spot on- very funny and touching. I haven’t been able to catch one of Nick’s shows at The Blank before but have heard from very good friends that they’ve been just as good (he made a rock star SQUEE!). very glad to have gotten the chance to make it to this show. great job, Nick.

Jacqui- we twitpic’ed the few photos we snapped after
