L.A. Weekly Reviews ‘Santaland’

L.A. Weekly’s Stage Raw blog reviews Nicholas Brendon in The Santaland Diaries:

Brendon is an appealing performer who makes Sedaris’ story his own, nicely conveying the sense of a character whose toothy, cheerful grin masks the disdain of the passive- aggressive store clerk.

Reviews are in for Nicholas Brendon in 'Santaland Diaries'

… And they’re good! Of course, we had no doubt, right?

An excerpt from Examiner.com’s review:

As directed by Michael Matthews, Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) channels Sedaris in all his humiliating green velvet and big bow glory in this entertaining one-man show adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello. From dry acknowledgement of his demoralizing situation (“I am a 33-year-old man applying for a job as an elf.”) to droll observations of crazy human behavior, corporate greed and crass Christmas commercialism, Brendon cracks wise with an easy inviting charm.

And from Backstage.com:

Building comic steam with his deadpan delivery, Brendon strikes the ideal mix of cynicism and dry wit to mine the material for maximum hilarity. … Brendon boasts a likable presence that helps balance the script’s uglier implications with a lighthearted sense of fun.
